Paw Pad Protector for Your Pet

It’s winter and the dryness on my dog’s paws are looking cracked. I decided to try some recipes to see what works best and of course is easy to make. This paw protector is wonderful! The scent is great and even though he licks it I know it is safe for him plus protecting his little pads.

Paw protector wax- like substance also helps break down the ice and snow that may collect in his pad. Every time we come in from outside, especially after being down at the ranch I check his paws to make sure there is no snow inside the pad. By applying the paw pad protector this cuts down on the snow accumulation. I just have to remember to put it on him BEFORE we go outside.

Recipe

4 tbsp organic shea butter

8 tbsp organic Calendula infused oil  (I have a recipe here)

2 tsp carnauba wax

4 tbsp organic bees wax.

 4 tbsp coconut oil

1/2 tsp vitamin E

1 tbsp organic  Sunflower oil.

 30 drops Rosemary Essential oil

 15 drops Lavender Essential oil.

10 drops of  Tea Tree Essential oil

In a double boiler, bring the calendula oil, shea butter, carnauba wax, beeswax, and coconut oil to melting point. This should only be about 2 minutes or so. Remove from heat and add vitamin E and your essential oils. Stir again and quickly and carefully pour into your molds. Paw mold, tins, (from any dollar store) or cupcake mold

TIPS

#1. I like to mix the first ingredients in a  4 cup glass measuring cup. I place this in double boiler and stir with a plastic spoon. This helps pouring into my molds easier and using the plastic spoon I can throw away for easier clean up.  #2. I add a tsp of Apricot oil as this oil is helpful in dry chapped skin. #3. Adding a few calendula flowers to the mold make for pretty presentation. I doubled this recipe because of the thick molds used.
