A simple recipe, fun and safe for kids, and of course a wonderful way to teach children the art of giving.
Coming into a season of giving I wanted to create ideas for gift giving, table decor, and an activity to do with youth. Since we are past the little ones in the home and yet to have grandchildren, I thought of this old recipe to have the youth make for their loved ones. Plus, these little gems can be used all season and adding a heart or snowflake to the mix of cookie cutters…well… this could be an ongoing gift through the long winter months.
Enjoy making these and being creative of how you can add them to packages, place them throughout your home for wonderful scents, or simple ornament to decorate your tree.
1 cup of flour
1 cup of salt
1/2 cup warm water
Mix flour and salt together, add water slowly while mixing with your hands. Form a ball, make sure they are not too sticky.
Roll out dough onto floured surface and make your cut outs.
After you place cut outs onto your cookie tray, make a hole by using a straw. You can also stamp on the cut out to give a little Scandinavian look.
Bake at 250 degrees for 2-3 hours or leave out on a tray for 2 or so days.
After they dry, add a drop or 2 of essential oils to each one. We love using cinnamon, peppermint, clove, and orange. Either individually or combining a couple.
You can also paint them with acrylics to add a flash of color.
