Why even have a word?

For many people having a special word to fit a moment or year in time is meaningless. Yep, I would have to agree if you really don’t care about achieving a goal of a purpose beyond yourself. When I first heard about this, I loved the idea. It created a spark in me! My first word or words, Choosing Joy. Two words I know, but at that time it is what I seek more of in my life and to have this word going into a new year helped me focus and be more intentional about seeking joy. Even in hard times. To find joy in situations, people, planning. Having a special word kept me grounded when joy was not present.

What to do with your word

I began taking my word and using it as my morning prayer and looking up passages in the bible around the word. I would then journal and or meditate about what I had just studied. One year I chose PATHWAYS. Another year, REST. It was such a joy to search through scripture and hear and see how the Lord was moving in me to make changes. Repent. Pray. Pray for others. Simply, just embracing and practicing what the Lord is sharing. I am a creative person. I love getting my inks, glitter, stickers, you name it and of course applying the word in some kind of art form. Sometimes these words would show up in my card making.

Given to friend in need
Gift giving (using the Cricut)
Bath Bombs with a message of REST one of my favorite words

This is what inspired this post

I just LOVED this idea!

I belong to a bible illustrated group on Facebook and one gal, Danielle Lariscy, shared what she does with her word of the year. I fell in LOVE with this idea on so many levels! For one, you can remember all the words the Lord inspired you. Year after year reflecting and reading the prayers and praises. Second, you can make it big enough to write a special message of the “WHY” behind your word of the year or whatever you want to write on it. Again, years later being able to relook at what the Lord taught you. I think this will be a fun project for me to do on my days of REST to go back to my words and make these for my bible. I have at least 5 to do…So better get wording!

Get creative!

No, you don’t have to follow the idea. And NO I don’t believe it is a trend. I believe this will be in my life for as long as the Lord has something to remind me about, work in me, or inspire me in ways only HE can! If anything, it does help one stay focused if you struggle in areas of finding joy, rest, peace, prayer, or need to know you are loved. A word…speaks and is powerful! So, what’s your word this year?

First attempt…need some practice…BUT found the Cricut is much cleaner look below!

Hope, Ministry, Overcome, Ranch Life
My word for 2018 is rest. Am I doing a good job going into month three? Resting in Jesus is not easy because doubts creep in. I am in the Book of John 1:29-34. John the disciple and John the Baptist are both so open. Their hearts are genuine and real. They LOVE the Lord! Sitting in my warm home looking out at the sunshine and fresh fallin’ snow, I imagine what it would have been like to be John the Baptist. ┬áTo be watching his cousin approaching him as he was baptizing others and to have the LAMB OF GOD walk into the waters. Oh my! My Big Things What are your big things in life right now? Health issues, children, marriage, job, financial problems? Have you asked yourself “how can I really rest in__________? Your blank is whatever the unrest is. My big things (notice the S) is our season coming up in ministry. Meeting financial obligations. Being strong in my walk with the Lord to be able to help others. Events coming up and the planning it takes. Keeping the animals and ranch in good care. My list could go on! Doubt creeps in! Resting in Jesus within this HUGE responsibility of life is hard! What I need to remember? Let’s take a look at what happens once Jesus is placed under water. “John the Baptist testified, ‘I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon Him’. Do you see that? John witnessed the Holy Spirit resting on Jesus. Our friend John goes on, verse 33 “I didn’t know He was the One, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, “the One on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.” Can you just imagine this scene? Well, folks, we do need to picture this especially when we are facing life issues! If we have confessed our sins, and claim Jesus as Lord, we too have the Holy Spirit RESTING on our shoulders. NOT the problems of the world…the Holy Spirit Who gives us courage, strength, and hope to carry on! What a gift we have! Resting in the ONE…Jesus! Resting in knowing, without doubt, the Holy Spirit will give you the power to overcome! HOW IN THE WORLD do I do this? Simple…get in the Word of God. Memorize His promises. Post them on your mirror in the morning. Say out loud “Lord I confess I have doubted you in____________ (name it) and I know you will repair, fix, or have it in the palm of your hand!” Resting in the Big Things is resting in Jesus! Trust me, The Lamb of God has the BIG and little things in your life! Now go rest, pray, and rejoice in His power! God’s blessings upon you!
